GRADUATE PROGRAM

REQUIRED STUDY FOR A PH.D. IN PSYCHOLOGY

The program of study and training beyond the M.A. level is determined both by Departmental and area requirements and by the student's Ph.D. advisory committee. Following the granting of the M.A. degree, students should submit a planned program of advanced study to their advisor and committee for approval.

Sequence for Admission to Doctoral Candidacy Status

  1. Completion of M.A. requirements
  2. Appointment of Ph.D. committee
  3. Completion of area course requirements for Ph.D.
  4. Completion of minor requirements
  5. Completion of tools of research requirements
  6. Completion of area comprehensive examination
  7. Submission of application for doctoral candidacy to Dean of Graduate School. (Students may not register for dissertation hours until doctoral candidacy has been formally approved.)

TRANSFER AMONG PH.D. SPECIALTY AREAS

Should a student decide to transfer to another program area of study, the student will be required to follow normal application procedures to the Department. (Submission of all necessary materials required of all new students applying for a particular program area shall be accomplished by the deadline date normally followed by the Department.) Transfer applications will be considered along with all other applications for admission into a program area, and students will be notified at the decision date followed by the program area. Except in special cases as determined by the program area, transfer students will be admitted in the fall. In no case will students not in good academic standing in their current program be considered for transfer to another area.
